Summer Home Improvements

It's been a busy summer at the Addis house. Ke'o and I are taking several home improvement projects head on before our lives become a little more hectic this winter.

During the month of June, we gave three rooms (more like 2.5 rooms) a makeover. Below are some BEFORE and AFTER pictures of our work, along with some little descriptions of what we've done.

MASTER BEDROOM

BEFORE
It's tough to tell from the pictures, but our walls were pink (not by choice.) We simply didn't have time to paint when we moved in, and we kept them this way for three years.

We chose to swap out the pink with a color called Gravity, which I suppose is a fancy name for blueish-gray.

AFTER

We removed the hutch/mirror from the dresser because it looks old-fashioned. And then moved the dresser to the little nook you see towards the back of the room.

Consequently, the chest of drawers were taken to a different room (more on that later.) We also moved the bed from the North wall to the West wall.

Overall, this room not only feels different with the new paint color, but it became MUCH more functional. There is ample space for us to work with. And we even have room to add another piece of furniture if it becomes necessary.

WALK-IN CLOSET

So this is obviously the "half-room" I referred to earlier. But ironically, it was this 36-square-foot area that gave me the most problems. The wire shelving you see on the left, once again, came with the house. And while it was functional, it lacked efficiency.

We bought two closet units that gave us shelving AND the ability to hang two tiers of clothes. After a lot of measuring, configuring, and sweating, we got something that not only gave us better storage... but also looked a whole heck of a lot better.

THE NURSERY (In Progress)

BEFORE

This was a room that was once occupied by a spare bed, pet food, and musical instruments. Hmmm... it's no wonder why we picked it to be the nursery.

To date, we have not began arranging this room, because we don't have any baby furniture. (Gee, I can't wait for that.) However, we did remove the bed, and moved all the pet supplies to our office where they fit very nicely.

AFTER
Another thing we've done, as you can see from the picture is that we painted the room for it's future resident. It's called sage bud. I wanted it to be a gender-neutral color, and I think Ke'o did a great job of picking it out.

Something tells me that I'll have more updates on this room before all is said and now. But for the time being, this is all I got.
