I'll kick off the Fall Blog Season with the single-most discussed topic in America right now -- the upcoming Presidential election. I understand the importance of this election, but it still BLOWS MY MIND how many people are talking about this. I mean, the same people who played practical jokes on me ten years ago in high school are now sounding off after each debate.
I have managed to not make a single comment on social media about the Presidential race. No Facebook or Twitter posts. Not even any comments or likes in regards to what others have said. But I'm only human, and therefore, I want to publicly share my feelings in this blog post.
PLEASE NOTE THIS WILL BE THE ONLY TIME I MAKE REMARKS ABOUT THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE BEFORE THE ELECTION.
So you won't have to worry about my thoughts filling up your news feed or timeline. Anything I have to say will be said in the words to follow, and then you won't hear another peep out of me.
Okay, let's get started...
Just a few things you should no about me first:
- When I first became eligible to vote, I registered as an Independent.
- I later switched to Democrat. But then ultimately switched back to Independent when I most recently moved.
- When I was first eligible to vote in 2004, I voted for Georg Bush. I felt good about my vote.
- When I voted in 2008, I chose Barack Obama. I felt good about that vote too.
- Now it's 2012. The election is less than three weeks away. And I can honestly say I don't know who will be getting my vote. This, of course, brings us to the main point of this post.
I am FED UP with bipartisan politics. This is the main reason why I shed the word "Democrat" on my Voter ID card. It's not because I wanted to move more towards one side. It's because I didn't want to be affiliated with either party!
A perfect summary of what we've seen so far: Both candidates trying to interrupt each other and the moderator having little control over the proceedings. |
And the first debate... what on earth was that about??? A comment I read on Twitter said it best: "These guys are treating the moderator like NFL Coaches treated the replacement officials."
I truly believe Governor Romney and President Obama both want what's best for this country. But it's obvious there are some substantial differences in their views. It's a shame we can't be given straight-forward, step-by-step answers to legitimate questions many Americans have.
I can only hope that sometime within the next 20 days, something will happen that makes me feel good about casting a vote -- and thereby, playing a small role in electing the next leader of our country.
