As we put a cork into the 2012 year, I thought I would list my Top 5 Moments from the past 366 days:
5. Buying a Reliable Vehicle
I've already written about sadness of having to give up my car from high school, but the reality is that it absolutely needed to happen. The road has been much more pleasant since August.
4. Enjoying Our Back Yard
Technically, this is a cop out because it's not one single moment. However, 2012 was really the first time in our lives where we were able to entertain in our back yard. We bought some patio furniture, a grill, and some yard games to make an ordinary summer evening turn into hours of excitement.
3. The Boys are Back in Town
Once a year, a group of my friends from college get together for a weekend of sharing old memories and making new ones. Because we're scattered across the country, it's generally the only time of the year we get to see each other. In 2012, I played the role of "host", and it was an absolute joy to have everyone back in the area.
2. Three-Year Anniversary
In 2011, my wife and I spent our anniversary packing, as we were getting ready to move. But this past, we took a little 4-night getaway. From Branson to Eureka Springs to Hot Springs... It was just what the doctor had ordered.
1. Watching Chipper Jones for the Last Time
As I've mentioned before, I knew the 2012 baseball season would be very sentimental. In May, my buddy and I drove to St. Louis to watch the Braves play the Cardinals. In Chipper's first plate appearance, 40,000 Cardinal fans got up from their seats to give Chipper a standing ovation. For me, it was spine-tingling -- a moment that will be frozen in my memory for the rest of my life. It was the last game I would ever see Chipper play in person. Chipper went 2-4 with two walks in the game, and the Braves won 9-7 in 12 innings. For a lifelong baseball fan, it was my favorite moment from 2012.
